Perhaps unsurprisingly, the state’s 2016 legislative session has so far been dominated by discussion related to the budget. But what other topics do Connecticut’s legislators spend time on?
Trend CT built this self-updating chart to sort legislative items into a manageable number of broad topics.
The state’s website, cga.ct.gov, has many useful tools for tracking and reading bills, including a tool to browse bills by subject. However, that tool includes too many specific subjects to get a big-picture view of how the bills break down by subject.
We opted to use the Sunlight Foundation’s Open States project, which compiles data on state legislation across the U.S. The foundation defines a manageable number of subjects, so we used those subjects to create our expandable chart.
