Obesity in America: Rates remain steady but high

Connecticut has the ninth lowest adult obesity rate in the nation at 26.3 percent. Across the country, obesity rates remained steady though high in 2014, according to data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Only Kansas, Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio and Utah saw an increase. The data is based on self-reported information from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.


Do we know the scale of hospital language barriers?

We don’t know when — or how — each hospital provides interpreter services. Without this data, community members, community organizations, advocates and hospitals have few resources to assess and improve language access. It makes it difficult to craft strong policy to reduce health disparities.
